While to the great individualist social philosophers...power itself has always appeared the archevil, to the strict collectivist it is a goal in itself. It is not only...that the desire to organize social life according to a unitary plan itself largely springs from a desire for power. It is even more the outcome of the fact that, in order to achieve their end, collectivists must create power -- power over men wielded by other men -- of a magnitude never known...

Amendment 47 claims to stop someone from being forced to join a union. Federal law already prohibits forcing someone to join a union. The backers of Amendment 47 are using outrage over alleged membership coercing to gain votes. It is dishonest.

I once bought an expensive desk from American Furniture Warehouse. I’ll never shop there again.

So if Amendment 47 merely replicates something that is already prohibited by federal law, why are unions spending millions of dollars in dues extracted from their members to stop it? Something tells me their opposition to Amendment 47 isn’t motivated by something as abstract as a distaste for redundant laws.
